Antikrist released on DVD and Blu-Ray
The premiere took place on 30th January 2022 at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and Antikrist will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on 12th July 2024.
Rued Langgaard's opera ‘Antikrist’ was composed in the early 1920s and later revised. It deals with the decline of Western civilisation and criticises the lifestyle of society at the time of the composer. Music from the Romantic period and influences from contemporary composers are combined in the work. For all his criticism of human selfishness and frivolity, Langgaard nevertheless believed in the possible redemption of the world, which is celebrated in the final chorus. The opera was never performed during the composer's lifetime. This current production by Deutsche Oper Berlin has been praised worldwide, including by the New York Times.
