Ersan Mondtag Receives the B.Z. Culture Award 2025

Director and theater-maker Ersan Mondtag has been honored with the 2025 B.Z. Culture Award. The award ceremony will take place on April 8 at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.

Since 1992, Berlin’s largest daily newspaper, B.Z., has presented this award to outstanding figures who shape the city’s cultural life. The prize includes a bronze sculpture of the dancing bear – Berlin’s heraldic animal – created by sculptor Ernst Leonhardt.

In addition to Ersan Mondtag, this year’s recipients include actor Daniel Brühl, painter Cornelia Schleime, writer Jenny Erpenbeck, Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof, and the pioneering hip-hop group Die Fantastischen Vier. The evening will be hosted by actress and singer Meret Becker.

Mondtag is being recognized for his powerful and visually striking productions that have made a lasting impact on the German theater and opera landscape – most recently with Antikrist at the Deutsche Oper and Woyzeck at the Berliner Ensemble.
